Christmas Article: Christmas Entertainment – Computer Games Releases For Winter 2011

Computer games get a bad rap every now and again, with the emphasis in the press and media on their more violent releases. However, not all of them should be tarred with the same brush. In terms of Christmas Day entertainment, for many they’ve become as synonymous as board games and winter scene jigsaw puzzles. For everyone that falls into this digital fun loving camp, here’s a quick run down of ten of the most eagerly anticipated computer games set for release in time for Christmas 2011.

Coinciding with the cinematic release of Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson movie The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, the computer game looks likely to be just as much of a family treat this winter. Coming out on the 21st October 2011 across all platforms, it’s got some great graphics and follows the movie storyline to the letter.

One of the more exciting games for much younger children is Sesame Street Kinect: Once Upon a Monster out on the 28th October 2011. With the Xbox 360s Kinect censors, this game will let young children take control of their favourite Sesame Street characters with their arms and legs as the controller. It could be the cutest thing you’ll see this Christmas.

However, for the serious gamer, winter 2011 will be all about Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, out on the 8th November 2011. It’s the latest in the Call of Duty epic and brings gamers back to the high tech battle scenes of modern day military combat,

For gamers that love the slapstick world of World Wrestling Entertainment there’s WWE 12, set for release on the 25th November 2011. It’s got all the latest lycra clad supersized wrestlers to pound around with rendered in great detail.

However, the game for whole family fun will be Kinect Sports 2, out on the 25th November 2011. It brings the brilliant novelty of making your body movements a part of the game thanks to the Xbox Kinect’s motion censors. It includes golf, multi player American football, tennis, baseball, darts and skiing games to choose from.

Sonic Generations (25th November 2011) will bring back the whole history of Sonic the Hedgehog to the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360. It’s all rendered in stunning 3D and looks set to be another hit for Sonic and his pals.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is arguably the best looking fighting game set for release this winter (25th November 2011). Mixing the worlds of Marvel comics with characters from popular Capcom games like Ryu and Chun-Li, it looks high paced and action packed.

One of the most eagerly anticipated games out this Christmas has got to be Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games out on the 25th November 2011. With the 2012 Games in London, it’ll be great to pit Mario and Sonic against each other for the most recent Olympics.

Hand held gamers have also got Gundam 3DS to look forward to on the 2nd December 2011. It features the classic storyline and mecha-men of the brilliant Japanese Gundam series on the Nintendo 3DS.

There’s also the prospect of Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D, out on the 2nd December 2011. It adds to the growing might of the Nintendo 3DS games roster and will help to cement the console in the hearts of more serious gamers.

All in all, there are plenty of amazing computer games out this Christmas. While they can never compare to the genuine sense of achievement of completing a 500-piece jigsaw puzzle of Niagara Falls frozen in the winter, they’ve definitely found a place for Christmas entertainment.
